Are people still wearing boots over pants where you live? ?

I hate this look. I guess my area is behind the times if Uggs are out of style, because people are still buying them. I want to wear boots under boot cut jeans - what kind of boots are best for this? I think I'll be in the minority wearing boots the proper way! I typically just wear shoes, but since I live in a cold climate and will be outdoors more, want to buy boots.
