Michelangelo?

Every year, every student at my school must write a history research paper on an individual, event, or place that was significant to the world (or to history.) I chose to write on Michelangelo. What is significant about him? How was he important to history/world? I know he was a well known Renaissance architect, poet, painter, engineer, etc. but what was his impact? It'd be nice if you could back this up with sources but its okay if it's not. Thanks sooo much!
