Christians--is slavery a sin?

The Catholic church has longed (since at least the 1400s--officially. Unofficially--always ) condemned slavery, but she also considers it a grave sin, under the 5th & 7th commandments (stealing and killing). Now, this is not literally in the Bible--does that mean most Christians do not see it as a sin?
